urban oasis
History meets nature in this urban paradise, designed to provide an escape for busy young adults and families. The "Urban Paradise" draws inspiration from the historic slope that once connected Jones Street to Wattle Street, which used to be a waterfront in Wentworth Park. By recreating this pathway, visitors can walk across the paradise and descend towards Wattle Street. The organic wave-like shape of the aquatic center creates spaces for a beach wave pool and an enclosed indoor swimming hole that looks towards the cliff, along with other facilities that make the journey unforgettable.
To make the most of the site, the relative level has been surveyed; the cliff and descending slope towards Wattle Street have been observed as well. They took advantage of these unique features to inform their design decisions, including the location of different access points and the overall transparency of the swimming pool complex. With a view overlooking Wentworth Park to the west, the swimming pool complex is situated to make the most of this stunning vista. such it also influenced the building design and trafficable roof.
An outdoor pool captures the water, mimicking the arrival of the flood. The indoor swimming hole is located closest to the outdoor pool, ensuring the water is stored in an enclosed, protected indoor space. Additionally, a cold spa is located on the cliff, where it was discovered during the excavation of the quarry.
